As far as racing goes 2016 has been a bit of a disaster. Coming off a full winter’s training I felt really good, but in February I broke my metatarsal which put me out from any running for 4 months. However I could concentrate more on cycling and swimming.

I did a few MTB XC races and popped my cherry at some road races. My main focus though was in August and September with Ironman 70.3 Austria and Ironman Weymouth.

In July I had a warm up middle distance race in North Yorkshire, 3 days before it I was doing a short run and my foot fractured again. So that put paid to having a good race in the Ironmans. I was really gutted as the power numbers for the cycling was better than I’ve had before and my swim times were faster . I did do the swim and bike legs in Austria in 35 degree heat which made me quite thankful I wasn’t running.

So now I’m going to focus a bit more on MTB marathon racing, I’ve already been in contact with Jason (Miles) and we may have some plans in the pipeline to head to Europe again to race out there. As I write this we are on our way to Ruthin Wales to do the last round of the MTB Marathon Series with Phil & Jacqui Simcock which will be good. I’ve also entered the Relentless 24hr race in October but Will Not be riding for 24hr, more of a training session and a get together with the rest of the team.

So next year I’ll be putting the long distance triathlons on the back burner but doing a few sprint triathlons, some road races and more MTB marathons.  So the plans suggest it’ll be another busy year, hopefully less injury’s though.
