Posted @withregram • @endurancemtber A final shakedown for my bike packing set up before heading down south for the @mtb_epics_uk Cotswold 200. I was fully packed today with enough food for 200miles and enough gear to make sure I dont come unstuck in an emergency. I only signed up a week ago, so didn’t have long to plan, especially with a new freehub, rear hubs bearings and bottom bracket to fit. This is Paul, one of the Mountain Rescue team who helped me off the mountain at 8pm last night after a fall. Paul then took me to the station this morning and loaded my bike on 🙏
It was 12 hours into stage 3 of 4 of #gbduro23 and I was in the Scottish Borders 🙌. The ride had been stunning, until a fall on a tricky descent broke my collar bone 😢
Thank you to Paul, Tom, Tim and the other wonder mountain rescue team.
Thanks also to my fellow riders, especially John and Jordan, who kept me warm and entertained, while we waiting.
Finally, thanks for all the support I’ve had, including people on the route. Just amazing!
Not even this can take away from what has been the adventure of a lifetime. Once again, this event reinforces my belief that we can do more than we think we can, and we are better than we think we are.
I’m now making my way home, one handed, to see my wife and daughters, so all will be grand.
To the remaining riders, I wish you strong legs and a stronger minds. I also wish you safe travels.

Pretty special to ride and finish with together in third on the day with Cristian in Just under 38 hours.

Posted @withregram • @alancolville The longer the event, the bigger the scramble getting to the start line. GBDURO is no exception.
For getting me there, so much thanks to Jane, Amy and Es. How ye put up with me is anyone’s guess.
To BW Cycling, my local bike shop, who support me brilliantly by making sure my trusty stead (called double cream) is in top condition.
Finally, to Ed at Kostüme, who’s kit I’ve been testing to the limit. So far, top notch and ethical kit, that really goes the distance.
If you haven’t heard of GBDURO, it is a 2000km self-supported bikepacking enduro from Land's End to John O'Groats on road, gravel, singletrack, and everything in between.
It’s run as four approx 500km stages, with the first starting tomorrow at 8am, and taking me from Land’s End to near the Welch coast. This I’ll do in a single, sleepless ride of over 36 hours, 635km, and 10,000+ metres of climbing🤞

Huge chapeau to James Thompson for completing the Ultrafondo The Everest. Absolutely bloody brutal. Here are a few words post event from JT:
“Wowsers, certainly a tough day on the bike - especially hailing from the flat Fylde coast!!
Beginning at altitude from Verbier, Switzerland the ‘Everest’ Ultrafondo began at 2.30am in the cold, dark and wet (luckily conditions I am used too 🤪). 11 ski stations visited around the Valaisian and Helvetian roads. The first three climbs and two descents covered in the dark, with daylight breaking on the third descents. Had to dig deep with some monster climbs backloaded on the route and the light fading but crawled over the line and now to enjoy some fatty food and beer! 👍”

Posted @withregram • @mattjones_mtb Wow. Hardest day on a bike I’ve ever had! Braunton 150 around exmoor is no joke! From the start it was rain and slop,in bloody August, and moving forward was a constant battle. The going was really tough having to dodge bogs and walk when I’d normally be riding. Fought really hard to keep the average speed up but it kept slipping back and back. I even tweaked a muscle from all the walking. There were many times in my head I was planning my escape route. Some amazing trails though but best enjoyed over 3 days I’d say!
Chuffed to have dragged my bedraggled self round this one over and hour quicker than the current record holder.
Thanks to @sarahgudge for letting me do these things to myself again. Feels good? To be back at it pushing hard which @advance_cycle_coaching needs to take credit for by making training work around my chaotic life!

The West Kernow Way trail done in one hit! + a bit extra!
152 miles
14,363ft elevation
15 hours 24 minutes.
I put my toe down a bit around the 70 mile mark as I figured I was on for a fastest known time, but! I massively paid for that stupidity with only 12 miles to go.
A massive bonk put me down to a snails pace for a few miles but after eating everything I had left in my backpack, I found enough in my legs again to finish ,😊
Pretty pleased with how I held up and felt over this duration, but I definitely won’t be going out to enter The Tour divide any time soon 😊
I had my eyes on this challenge for over 2 years, so that itch has now been scratched, 😊
