At the weekend a selection of Team JMC riders, from the young to the old, took part in the Heaton Park Cyclocross race.

Our two youngest competitors were Ciara and Iona Simcock and here are their race reports:

Ciara Aged 9 – At the weekend I took part in a cross bike race. It was a lovely day and the grass was dry, so it was easy to ride on. I took part in the U10’s race. It was a really good course with downhills and uphills. It was a ten minute race. After I had finished I went to the presentation. I came 7th in the girls group. It was brilliant.

Iona Aged 7 – I went to a bike race at Heaton Park on Sunday. I had a practice on the track before the race. It was sunny. When it was nearly my race I was getting a bit nervous. After the first lap I was out of breath but I carried on and I came 3rd in the U8’s race.

Also taking part were Jacqui Simcock and Sally Burgess, with both achieving creditable finishes in their respective age groups, and Dave Powell who yet again demonstrated his talent for this form of racing with an excellent 6th place.

Despite snapping his rear mech hanger on his race bike during his warm-up and having to borrow Ciara Simcock’s bike, Andrew Burgess managed to overtake 46 people and finish 88th.
