Round 4 of the National MTB Cross Country series at Sherwood Pines last weekend saw perhaps the biggest Team JMC turn-out at an event ever. A total of 10 riders took part in the open and fun category races – 4 laps of the very fast, dry and extremely narrow woodland course – and of those 10 riders three made it to the podium.
In first place in the Fun Female category was Jacqui Simcock, who said afterwards,
‘This course was a great blast around a woody, twisting majority single track. The woman’s entries were sparse but there was one entrant who was of a similar fitness to myself, although in a different cat, so it was good to have someone to race with around with. We kept relatively even throughout the race but I was pipped at the last stretch into the finish. Lesson for next time is to look over my shoulder more often! I still won my category for which am extremely pleased.’
In third place in the Fun Female category was Sally Burgess, who was just pleased that the conditions weren’t wet and muddy.
In second place in the Men’s Open Category was Jason Miles who managed to claim his runner-up spot on the podium in a sprint finish.
