Jacqui took a fine win at the weekend at the highly-regarded Summer Classic MTB race at Cannock Chase. The young Simcock sisters also put in a fine performance in the junior race. Well done you three!
As I’d had little racing opportunity, I signed up for the Cannock Chase Summer Classic in preparation for the belated entry to the Bristol Bikefest 6 hr solo race. It was a glorious day. I had about 5 miles of ambling warm up across the Chase to arrive just in time for the Ladies Fun Category kick-off. The field started pretty fast so I was about 7th in the first mile or so. It is a short course which winds it’s way through the tricky rooty trees and short up-and-down chunks of moorland of the Chase. Once I had got into my stride I started passing the competition until I was at the front by half way around the second lap. Managing with the tricky twists and turns helped retain the front place through to the end. A very happy 1st place win over a short 12km.
