Dave Powell and Jason Miles both took part in the Cumbrian Cracker Cyclosportive at the weekend, a 60 mile event on country lanes in the LakeDistrict and an event at which Team JMC make a regular appearance.
Despite amber weather warnings and predictions of constant torrential rain, the gods smiled on the lads and blessed the event with light winds and even at times some sunshine.
Cyclosportives are not races and apart from the quality of the cycling route itself, sportive events are often measured on the quality of the cakes at the feed station! Providing a welcome breather halfway around the loop, the ‘Cracker feed station in Cartmel had mountains of home-made cakes, jammy dodgers, ham and pickle sandwiches, cups of tea and large bowls of jelly babies to dive into , so this one was well worth the entry fee.
In spite of the cake stop, a puncture and a relatively sedate pace, Dave and Jason finished in a respectable three and a half hours and rolled across the line 69th out of 1100 riders to be greeted by more cups of tea, cake and a complimentary bowl of hot soup.
