Team JMC’s Dave Carroll and Mike Wheeler took part in last weekend’s Great Manchester 10K – Dave got round in 49:34 and Mike 53:15. Read on for Dave’s race report:
Although I run regularly to keep fit I’d never competed in any kind of race. I was due to run it last year, but an injury ruled me out. So after experiencing the atmosphere watching my wife run the race I was eager to compete this year. Training was going well up until the middle of March when I went away on my honeymoon, when I returned it was a struggle to get back into the swing of things and my second run out resulted in another injury, this kept me out of training up until the week before the race. I managed to fit in two 6k runs but I was running far too quickly to finish 10k. On the day I decided to stick with my wife as she runs at a pace I’m comfortable with and then managed to out sprint her in the final straight 🙂 I ended up finishing the race in a time of 49:34, getting under 50 minutes was my target so I’m made up with that. Roll on next year and hopefully I can blitz that time, that’s assuming I don’t pick up anymore injuries!
