Four members of Team JMC recently raced at the Strathpuffer – a near-legendary 24 hour mountain bike race in the Highlands of Scotland. Taking place in the middle of winter, the riders had to deal with 17 hours of darkness as well as mud and high winds. Thankfully, the temperatures were more comfortable this time around (previous years have seen below-freezing temperatures and an ice-covered course) however the race was no less arduous.
All racing solo, Dave Powell crashed badly and retired from the race after spending most of the race extending his lead. Jason Miles, competing in the ‘singlespeed’ one-geared bike category, finished in 5th place overall but won the singlespeed category, Andrew Burgess improved on his 2011 result and Phil Simcock rode a near-faultless race to claim his first 24 hour overall win.
Congratulations to Phil!
