Sale Sizzlers

Team JMC member Steve is taking part in the “Sale Sizzlers” initiative being run by Sales Harriers. The initiative, hosted by Sale Harriers Running Club, challenges runners to enter four 5k runs. The challeneg is for the runner to beat their previous time each time they compete.

Hosted at Wythenshawe Park in South Manchester the challenge has seen Steve drop his time from 22 minutes 10 seconds to 21 minutes 25 seconds.

@withrepost • @alancolville 💥 What a Kielder Chiller and 24 Hour British Mountain Bike Champs that was! 2nd overall and age group national champ 🏅
Thanks to my pit crew, Eugene and Budge with a help from Sally and Jason🙏 and backed by BW Cycling and Mountain Fuel Nutrition.
After 8 hours, the first big weather front hit, viciously shaking the trees, accompanied by thunder and lightening. Torrential rain and wind ripped through me on the exposed climbs. I made it back to the pits for dry kit. My pit told me the news that the race organisers decided to neutralise the event in two hours at 9pm, before the next storm front hit and would resume the race at 3am. People's safety was the organisers no 1 priority, and I tip my helmet to them for their decision 👍 I banged out some fast laps and awaited the storm to clear.
At 3am, it was back on the start line, which surprisingly my legs reacted well to. Our plan was to do 7 laps in the last 8 hours. After 4 laps, Budge instructed me that I had to do 3 laps in 3:25 minutes, so needed 3 x 1 hour 5 minute laps to be sure. As I spun round the corner into the pits in 1 hour 5 mins for the first lap, I could hear Budge shout for joy, which really lifted me to do exactly the same for the next 2 laps. I finished exhausted but elated. I'd left it all out there. As hard as I pedalled, I just couldn't catch the super talented Kyle Beattie, who beat me again last year. What a legend to finish behind. I'm super, duper, stoked for him and his team 👏 🥂
I'd done 17 laps in 18 hours, compared to 19 in 24 hours last year. I'd covered 219km and climbed 7,383 metres. That's four 24 hour races in 12 months. It's a wonderful world full of adventurous, bright eyes people experiencing life on the absolute limit and to the full. I proper love it and the friends I've made outside my comfort zone, just the best place to be, where every feeeling and emotion is heightened to the last. Even better when your big bro is there to support you!

So that’s a wrap for #kielderchiller24 for another year. Epic course with even more epic weather. Full story to come but well done to all the Team JMC supported racers and especially Alan Colville, Sofia Christiansen and Andrea Pogson for winning the Mens V50 solo, Womens overall solo and Womens V60 solo UK National Champs jerseys.
