Last weekend Budge and Sally took part in the Abersoch 10K and both came out with very creditable results – finishing top 10 in their respective V50 categories.
Sally commented “I entered the Abersoch 10k as I knew we’d be there on holiday at the same time, what I didn’t plan for was how warm the weather would be, great for a holiday, not for a 10k race! Budge had us near to the start line as possible, fine for him, not for me as I tried to keep pace and not be over taken too much, (which didn’t work out). I did overtake some on the descents, however that was short lived once the steeper climbs appeared. All in all, the heat got to me and the last 1k on the beach hurdling groynes were proving to be tough until a woman, whom I suspected was in my age group ran past me, I wasn’t having that, so I dug deep and overtook her and kept her at bay as I crossed the finish line. I was glad I did as it got me 10th place out of 49 in my age cat! There was a lot of encouraging support along the route, and those who had sprinklers and water pistols for the runners were just brilliant. Looking forward to next year……….”
Budge commented “It was a great event, really well marshaled with loads of spectators cheering everyone on. I particularly appreciated all those that lined the sides of the road with hosepipes and water pistols as the weather was cracking the flags. Pleased with 44:27 bearing in mind the heat, hills (more than expected) and the last 1k beach run with added hurdles. 49th overall out of around 1000 starters and 4th in the V50 category”.
